Summer Jobs - start looking now
Summer jobs will likely be hard to find once again this year. Why? With the increase in the amount of people unemployed, college students are not just competing with high school students. They are also competing with older, more experienced individuals. What you should consider doing is the following:
1) Use every break you have this semester (Spring Break, Easter, etc.) to ask potential employers about potential openings this coming summer. Let them know you’re interested - fill out applications or try to get an interview. Your ultimate goal is to be have a job set up by mid to late April if possible.
2) Try to find work near the middle of the semester. Now, I am not advocating working twenty or more hours while you are a full time student. What I do advise is staring to show an employer you are a good employee NOW, so that you are more likely to land a job for the summer.
3) Look for a couple different opportunties. Undergraduates often rely on summer money to pay for their books and other college expenses. If you can’t get the hours through one job, try to get two part time jobs.
Starting early is always a great idea.
